Yet another stirling piece of writing to share with the world from Room One.
'Why Do I live Here?' by Evianah Jones
Tauranga is a beautiful place. With so many amazing things to offer no wonder more than 100,000 people live here. I am just one of these people and I live in an average part of town in an average home with my Mum, our three dogs and my cat.
To get to our house you would need to go up a winding road and up a 100 metre gravel driveway, then past a couple of green pastures, then the lawn.
our lawn is big. Our lawn is very big. To give you an idea you could put a fully sized basket ball court on it and still have quite of room left to ply. then there is our house, it is a Lockwood home and because of that the exterior is 100% wood! we have a large verandah leading halfway round the house on both sides. There are two french doors leading to the dining and lounge area.
I love my house. I am glad my Mum bought it. I loved our home in Auckland but I love the one here more!

Katikati College Enrolment
A Katikati College staff member will be collecting the completed college enrolment forms next Thursday August 7 at 3pm.
They will be available for parents who would like to ask questions about the college or the enrolment process.
The date for the College Open Evening has been changed to Wednesday 20 August. This is a great opportunity for the children to get their bearings and meet a few staff members.

Congratulations to Lucy and Shannon who met the homework challenge. I will post the answer on Friday, hopefully the rest of the class will find the answer also.
If anyone has a copy of the author's work we would love to borrow it.
Here is another stunning example of descriptive writing from Room One.
Why Do I Live Here? By Quillan Macaulay.
My house has an old dusty driveway, the house is shaded by a huge oak tree and a lot of smaller trees. The house is about 90 years stale and the former paint is slowly peeling off.
Our shed is ancient and rusted. The walls of both shed and house are a dull white colour. The roof of the shed is an algae black colour and the house roof is crimson.
we have a small shaggy bush by the gate and our fence is smetimes outlined with cows.
Occasioanaly my dad stands next to our car and watches the sun set behind the Kaimais. very rarely I will come out and watch also.
If I had to move away I would be heartbroken.

Homework Week Two
Some superb homework was completed last week. The standout efforts came from Lily (Shakespeare quote!), Hamish, Lucy, Sally, Jay, Shannon and Adam. Stunning quotes and interesting detailed descriptions. Well done.
This week please complete the mandatory tasks at the front of your homework folder.
The times table focus is 8x.
Word study is to find the dictionary definitions for : tectonic, equator, eruption, destruction, longitude, latitude.
You can now have a rave. In a poem or in prose describe the house you would like to live in if you had all the money you needed. What would it be like?
There is a challenge for you this week only on the blogsite. A prize will be awarded to the first person to meet the challenge.
Great poetry uses vivid written images. A written image is an illustration in words. A famous New Zealand writer wrote many fine images in her short stories. Who is the author and which short story is the following extract from?
"The far-away sky - a bright, pure blue - was reflected in the puddles, and the drops, swimming along the telegraph poles, flashed into points of light."
From the same story " A goldfinch flew over the shepherd's head and, perching on the tiptop of a spray, it turned to the sun, ruffling its small breast feathers."
Good luck!

"Why do I live here?" By Jay Wills
To get to my house you have to walk past a damp and derilect shed with winding branches creeping over the rusty yet sturdy roof. after the shed there are four delicious orange trees, one massive avocado and an extraordinary grapefruit.
Now for the house. I like to think that my house is different from others, but really it's just another house. it stands tall in a giant like manner. great trees protect the house from the whitling wind.
we've got a lovely view of the Kaimais when you walk past the lush trees. it's full of evergreen plants and trees and looks amazing when the sun sets 'cause the crimson light hits the mountain and makes them blood red.
I live here because I think it's a great spot to live.
Homework Week One
As our term theme is ‘Earth’ with the focus on ‘why do I live here?’ we will be beginning with our own homes.
Writers need to be observant. We need to recall details about a scene or a place.
Go into your bedroom. In three minutes write down all of the objects in your bedroom.
The third object in your list is the one I would like you to describe in writing in such a way that another person can work out what it is without your naming it or its actual use.
Do the same with your kitchen and lounge.
Collect an example of an author’s descriptive writing detailing a setting eg. A house, a street, a mountain, a sunset.
Timestable focus is 7x.
